STATEMENT BY SENATOR EDWARD M. KENNEDY HONORING OUR NATION'S VETERANS

As the country observes Veterans Day on November 11th, Senator Edward M. Kennedy released the following statement honoring our nation's veterans:

"On this Veterans Day, America pays tribute to the service and sacrifice of all the brave men and women who have fought for our country in the past and to all those serving today in our nation's armed forces here at home and around the world. These patriots put themselves in harm's way to protect us all, and we owe them an immense debt of gratitude. It's because of their dedication and sacrifice and the dedication and sacrifice of their families that we continue to enjoy the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution.

From the shores of Normandy, to the jungles of Vietnam, to Iraq and Afghanistan today, our soldiers, sailors, marines and air force men and women have defended America with great courage and commitment. In honoring these true American heroes on this special day we also renew our solemn commitment to care for them and their families to the best of our ability in all the years ahead."
